17 states will take the October 5th and 6th remote exam. Those states are Pennsylvania, Washington, DC, Georgia, Massachusetts, Vermont, Texas, New Jersey, Illinois, New York, Ohio, New Hampshire, Maryland, Tennessee, Kentucky, the Virgin Islands, California, Connecticut.
The October remote exam is basically half the usual UBE bar exam. The NCBE will provide 100 MBE questions divided into two 50-question sets, 3 MEE questions, and 1 MPT item, such that the materials can be administered in four 90-minute testing sessions. The MEE and MPT questions will be administered on October 5th, and the MBE question will be administered on October 6th.
In California, the exam will consist of 5 one-hour essay questions on October 5th and on October 6th, the exam will be comprised of 100 multiple-choice questions and a 90-minute
Performance Test.
Do not think that a remote exam will be easier because you get to take the exam at home or that the essays or the MBE will only be half of what you expect. The remote exam will be just as hard, if not harder than the full exam. Moreover, the essays and MBE will be worth twice as much as the previous bar exams, so you cannot do poorly on any essay or any MBE question. The margin of error has just narrowed. Because there are fewer essays and fewer MBE, grading will be much more strict. It is a full bar exam and this will determine if you can practice in your state. This is not the time to let down or not take it seriously.
